I was reading about Dressing Your Truth's current Spread The Love promotion and saw this quote:
"Discover why your flaws are actually your best features."
My "flaw" that I've despised for years is my eyebrows. Yup, you read that right. I've hated my eyebrows ever since I was a teenager. I realized that my eyebrows were different from other girls and I always thought something was wrong with them that needed to be fixed. When I was in young women's I remember having a beauty night where we learned about hair and body care including makeup. I self-consciously approached the teacher asking what could be done about my eyebrows because they seemed to have cowlicks that drove me crazy. The teacher told me I could start waxing my eyebrows to get the subtle arch that most people have. For a couple years I did get them waxed periodically and then would pluck stray hairs in between waxings. I tried to make my eyebrows into a soft and subtle curve that I so desperately wish I had naturally and I remember feeling embarrassed most of the time because I thought everyone else noticed how unruly those cowlicks were! I tried to lightly brush brown mascara on my eyebrows because a lot of the hairs were really faint. I was still frustrated with them, but I maintained this technique for years up until I went through my divorce.

After my divorce I was really on a quest to figure out who I am. I didn’t even know what I liked anymore and I had a strong desire to have some sort of style, but didn’t know how to learn to have a style. My neighbor at the time was a hair stylist and I found myself again in turmoil about my eyebrows. I wanted to start dating and was really self-conscious of my eyebrows. I lamented to her about my cowlicks which according to Wikipedia are, "A section of hair that stands straight up or lies at an angle at odds with the style in which the rest of an individual's hair is worn." An angle at odds with the style of the rest of the hair… That pretty much summed up my feelings about my eyebrows – at odds with my face! If only they were different! My neighbor introduced me to eyebrow pencils and I experimented with pencils for another two years before I discovered Dressing Your Truth.

Now that you have the back story I hope you can see how much I appreciated the information from Dressing Your Truth because as I took the course, I realized for the first time in my life that my eyebrows were the perfect expression of me. I learned new ways to explain my previously annoying “flaw” and now see that my eyebrows are angular and one of my best features. At one part of the online course Carol tells you to look into a mirror and study your facial features to see if any of the keywords from the different types are being expressed in your face. I immediately realized my eyebrows were edgy and there was no question in my mind rather I was a type 3 or not. I am active, reactive, edgy, angular, substantial, fiery, dynamic, and determined and so are my features – especially my eyebrows. I quickly learned the best way to highlight them was to use eyebrow powder and for the first time in my life I’ve been getting compliments on my eyebrows! The information I’ve learned from Dressing Your Truth has been transformative for me. Those years ago after my divorce I was searching for a style, a way to physically express and validated who I am, and when I learned about Dressing Your Truth I knew it was the information I had been looking for.

Have you purchased the Dressing Your Truth online course yet?? If not you are missing out and this information could be the missing piece you’ve been looking for to help unlock the mystery of your “flaws.” Now until September 30, you can get this course for only $99 and receive a $20 gift card to the online store. This is an amazing deal and definitely worth the investment. I’m sharing this information with you because I love it and hope you will too!

<![CDATA[Watermelon Smoothie]]>Wed, 01 Aug 2012 21:20:47 GMThttp://www.discoveringmytruth.com/1/post/2012/08/watermelon-smoothie.htmlPicture
I've been wanting to add watermelon to a smoothie for a long time but didn't do it until today. I have to say it was very tasty and wanted to share the recipe. I had some watermelon that was overripe that I knew my kids wouldn't eat so I chopped it up and put in my Vitamix. I looked online for some ideas of what to add to it and found this post. I had a triple berry frozen fruit mix from Costco that I used as well as some 100% fruit juice. YUM! The kids loved it and it was the perfect refreshing treat after a long bike ride.

WATERMELON SMOOTHIE
5-6 cups chopped watermelon
2 cups frozen berries
1/2 - 1 cup 100% fruit juice ( I used pineapple orange)

Blend til smooth and enjoy!

<![CDATA[L is for...]]>Tue, 13 Mar 2012 16:18:29 GMThttp://www.discoveringmytruth.com/1/post/2012/03/l-is-for.html
I had a lot of fun with this next project for St. Patrick's Day. I was inspired to create a sign from recycled pallets after seeing this blog post from jaimescott.blogspot.com. I had a "L" in my craft stash that I had previously purchased or otherwise I would have cut out one myself with my jigsaw.
I made the background with four pieces of pallet wood screwed together in the back then spray painted green. I had some little pieces of molding from another project that I cut for the frame and spray painted gold. I painted the green "L" and cut out a bunch of "L" words with my Silhouette including "leprechaun" and "lucky" for St. Patrick's Day.

<![CDATA[Decorative Rock Tree]]>Tue, 06 Mar 2012 18:40:06 GMThttp://www.discoveringmytruth.com/1/post/2012/03/decorative-rock-tree.htmlFor the last 10+ years I've had my kitchen decorated in apples. The last year or so I've been wanting to move from the apple decor into something different. One of my favorite kitchen decor items was this apple tree that sat on my kitchen table as a centerpiece for years. I realized how pathetic is was starting to look since it's been in the grasp of all my kiddos - torn off leaves and apples. I was just going to send it to DI, but the thrifty me saw the potential underneath the dilapidated apple exterior! I pulled off all the apples and leaves and was left with a very reusable foam cone base. After much contemplation I decided to use these smooth rocks I found at the $ store as well as some moss.
After tearing and pulling all the existing exterior from the base I simple used a hot glue gun and got to work. As you can tell from the picture I laid the stones and then made sure I put moss in between. It was rather simple, but took a little time.
I am so proud of the end result. Everytime I pass it in my living room I smile with thrifty pride knowing that I gave second life to my little tree.

<![CDATA[Side Table Redo]]>Sun, 04 Mar 2012 23:44:25 GMThttp://www.discoveringmytruth.com/1/post/2012/03/side-table-redo.htmlI bought this little table at DI for $8 and it was my first official redo project. My husband bought me an electric sander so I was excited to start on something. I bought this little table because it was sturdy and made of solid wood. It came with both drawers although I knew I was only going to use one of them and put a basket where the bottom one was. Here's a good before and after:
I started by sanding down the entire piece. Then after cleaning off all the sawdust I adhered some beadboard wallpaper from HD onto the the sides to add a little something extra. Then I primed the entire piece then painted it with a can of oops paint from HD.
After it was painted I distressed the entire surface with sandpaper then wiped on some Dark Walnut Stain. I proteted the surface with two coats of polyurethane since we have lots of little kiddos and I wanted it to be protected.
I found the little basket at Ross to fit in the hole. I store diapers and baby wipes in the basket for easy access during the day. My hubby bought the knobs at WM and I just love how it all came together. I love the end result, what do you think?
